It’s official: The FutureStack Global Tour is now in motion! And we couldn’t have picked a more perfect place to kick things off than in the bustling city of London, England.
On Wednesday, May 24, New Relic hosted its first FutureStack event of 2017, drawing double the crowd of our FutureStack: London event last year. Hundreds of developers, solution architects, business leaders, and enterprise executives gathered in Kings Place to learn about digital intelligence at cloud scale, get some hands-on product training—and, of course, find out what’s new with the New Relic Digital Intelligence Platform!
Exciting product announcements
As part of the morning keynote session, New Relic’s VP of Product Management Aaron Johnson and Senior Product Manager Nadya Duke Boone unveiled a number of exciting new product features (especially for all you AWS users), including:
- New AWS integrations for New Relic Infrastructure, including AWS Elasticsearch, ECS, Route53 DNS service, Kinesis Firehose, and billing.
- An Infrastructure SDK that lets you build your own integrations for New Relic Infrastructure, so you can track any on-host service along with other host-specific resources.
- Health Map, a cross-platform visualization for APM and Infrastructure that gives you a holistic view of the health of your applications and their underlying infrastructure.
Of course, it’s not a FutureStack without some cool demos—and the New Relic Product and Engineering teams definitely delivered!
KPIs to measure, cloud lessons learned, and so much more
Between all the customer talks, product trainings, and chances to network, there were plenty of opportunities to learn something new. For example:
If you’re not monitoring staff satisfaction, start now. “That should be a KPI you’re monitoring constantly,” said Chris Astley, head of operations at KPMG. “If your staff is happy, they’ll build good quality code,” which of course leads to customer satisfaction as well.
While New Relic customers like KPMG, Ocado, Ryanair, and AWS shared words of wisdom on the main stage, our own brilliant technical team led hands-on training sessions to a packed room down the hall.
Piers Linney talks FUD
At the end of the day, our final keynote speaker Piers Linney took the stage to talk about technology and transformation, specifically how to break through the fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD) in the tech space. According to the entrepreneur and former “Dragon” on BBC’s Dragons’ Den, “Technology doesn’t just happen … it’s all about how you integrate it into the business.” You need trust in order to enable transformation.
Afterward, everyone enjoyed food, drinks, and games, along with a special book signing by Architecting for Scale author and New Relic cloud guru Lee Atchison.
